Greatnews went back in time 338 days, lost all newer feeds

Postby carsick » Thu Dec 18, 2008 10:01 am

When I turned on my computer and booted up Greatnews, it told me I haven't cleaned up my feeds in 338 days, do you want to do it now? I said yes, then realized all the feeds I added in the last 338 days were no longer there. I haven't been messing around with any backup software for several months now, so I don't know why this happened just today. (yep, last full backup was about 3 months ago). I use Greatnews every day and it was just fine yesterday. The only system change I made this morning was turning off Vista's User Account Controls. I've also searched my C drive for newsfeed.db and only came up with the one db currently in use.

Is there any hope of retrieving what I had just yesterday? I'm missing about 50 feeds that I probably couldn't recreate/remember. Thx.

You could try using a program such as Recuva or Restoration, but since it wasn't actually deleted, just modified, chances are high that it's gone for good (unless you could try a System Restore?? though I doubt that would work for the GN DB)

Restoration:

Recuva:

The cleanup function only deleted articles, not feeds themselves. Did you get any error msg during cleanup?

I didn't get any error messages (that I know of, is there an error log?). It really did go back in time, newer feeds were missing, old feeds that I deleted months ago, are back. Very strange, where it got that old db file from, I don't know. I guess I will blame it on Vista. Thx for your reply.
