I ran Sysinternals's Filemon,

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Filemon.html

on GN and noticed that sometimes GN does hundreds of queries to GreatNews.ini. Shouldn't it be possible to save this overhead by reading GreatNews.ini only once at program startup and then to store the settings in some global variables?

Given the size of greatnews.ini file it's most likely cached in memory by OS. Currently the ini file is the centralized point where every read and write goes to. That's why almost all setting changes can take effect immdiately w/o restarting GN.

In Beta 2 performance tuning phase I will check this part more carefully. I'm sure there are some excessive file reads we can get rid of.

Wonderful! Most other developers are usually already happy when things "just work", and ignore users' comments on optimization. Not the case here. Which is one of the many reasons why I did the switch to GreatNews a few months ago!

Best
