Why not opensource

Postby e_spider » Sat Dec 27, 2008 7:04 am

I don't know GreatNews is dead or not. I like GreatNews and use it everyday, but the GreatNews didn't update since 1 year before.
Why didn't put GreatNews to opensource project. Other people can update it.

Do you plan to keep working on this product? If so, could you please fix the malformed DB problem that happens all the time under Vista (with large numbers of feeds).

If not, I'll continue to just use Google Reader and give up on GreatNews.

That malformed DB issue typically happens when people use GreatNews on low end flash keys. The write operation is not very reliable on some flash rom.

I'm using Vista myself and haven't seen any malformed db issue.

Really? How many feeds do you use? I have about 74.

I have over 100 feeds...

You can give build 385 a try. There are some bugs in the db engine were fixed.

Why not open source the code which is not copyrighted by other companies?? Then the community can fill in the missing pieces and GreatNews might live forever. Otherwise, just death...
