Big problem with virus + newsfeed.db

Postby nibbler » Wed Dec 05, 2007 7:42 am

Just yesterday a virus destroyed most of the applications on one of my flash drives. Among those applications was the portable edition of Greatnews (my favourite feed reader, of course ;-). Although all the files inside the Greatnews directory seem to be the same as before (or at least the "last edited" date has not been changed) I can not start Greatnews anymore.

The only thing I can see is this error message:

[ERROR 11]: database disk image is malformed

Unfortunately, my last backup of Greatnews has been quite a while ago and since then, I have added a lot more feeds. So is there any way to repair the "newsfeed.db" file or is it at least possible, to extract the feed urls and channels? It's very important for me to solve this problem as quick as possible.

Or is there any documentation of this database format? It looks like an encrypted SQLite database?

Thank you for your answers!

The greatnews.db is a sqlite3 database. You can find some tools here http://www.sqlite.org/cvstrac/wiki?p=ManagementTools that might be able to fix a corrupted file.
