The icon within the taskbar now doesn't reflect the correct status once you have read all the news items. It still displays that you have unread news items...

Thanks
Chris

Sorry I forgot to put into release note. The tray icon notification was also changed in the latest build. Now it works more like Outlook new message icon. The icon reflects new messages retrieved since you last read, instead of all unread items.

Is it possible to put how many messages are unread in the tooltip that pops up when you hold your mouse over the tray icon? It can even just be in brackets at the end of the current message.

Thanks.

(btw - that icon change is great, now it works like I want it to - too many times I left things unread but then didn't know that something new had come in :) )

First, I love this program.

Second, I would like to put in my 'request' to have the tray icon change upon new/updated news and only popup when there are new items to read.

Thank you.

Isn't this done in build 334?

Good idea. I will try to add this when the new server is up and running.

I don't believe so. In previous builds the tray icon would change (adding the golden asterisk) when new items were found and a popup would show how many. Now the tray icon never changes (it always has that golden asterisk) and it pops up showing how many new items since last read whether there's anything new or not. At least that's what is happening for me since the latest build.

Thanks again.

Several users reported similiar problem. Looks like a bug in build 334. I will fix it in next build.

Dunno if i'm the only one with this problem but sometimes when i don't shutdown properly it resets the feed count back to what it should be but when i update i still get feeds with 25 unread items when it should be one or two.
MY default browser is no long IE look below one link to see why.

problems with rss feeds ?

Postby orennahum » Wed Sep 28, 2005 7:55 am

Hi,

I have the following rss feed: http://torrentspy.com/rss.asp

If I use and other rss reader, I'm able to get new messages from that feed every 5 minuts and even less, but GreatNews is unable to get these messages (even if I try manual update).

Is that a bug ?

I added this feed to my subscription. Will check if it can update.

update:
I found the problem. This feed specifies TTL to 60 minutes:

e.g. the feed specifically instructs it shouldn't be checked more frequently than once per hour.

Can it be ignored ?

I thought that this might be the problem. The thing is, that other programs which do allow the check this feed more frequently, are able to get more messages.

Can this TTL can be ignored (maybe as an option or something) ?

Thanks,
Oren

there's a hidden flag to do that. see this post for details:
