1.0 Build 322 availabe as nightly build

Postby Jack » Fri Aug 19, 2005 9:36 am

+ Added tabbed browsing
Middle click on a link to open it on the background.
Tools->New Tab to start a new tab.

+ Added shortcut CTRL+R to mark read

+ Enhanced search function to search on regular expressions. (Thanks regexp)
To use the function, prefix your regexp with "re:". (e.g. Enter "re:g[o]*gle" in the search editbox on toolbar will match "google" or "goooooooogle" etc. )

+ Added new option to disable automatic channel updates (Thanks armstead)

* Changed the way how GreatNews handles charset mapping. (Thanks Alexander)

- Fixed a display bug in Top 10 Feeds page.

Alex reported a bug that this build wouldn't open in external browser anymore, but instead would span a new tabbed page inside GN. I will fix this problem in next build.

Tab browsing issues

Postby levisu » Sat Aug 20, 2005 2:52 am

Jack, thanks for adding tab browsing into greatnews!
Obviously, you listen to what users need.
Just feel that the tab browser isn't exactly what I need. Cause when you click on a link inside greatnews, it doesn't open a tab at all. It opens an external browser.
could you add option somehow like this:tool-options-usability-open rss links in a new tab?
Anyway, adding this tab browsing is really great!

This build has some problems with external browsers. The design is to:

1. Middle click open the link in a new tab at background
2. Left click open on current tab or external browser if so configged.

I mean clicking a link with mouse wheel or middle button.

not everbody's mouse has mouse wheel or middle button

Jack, not everbody's mouse has mouse wheel or middle button. So I think 'add option somehow like this:tool-options-usability-open rss links in a new tab' is better idea. you can either choose open the link in the external browser or tab.
Since tab browsing is so great, people out there with a mouse not having a mouse wheel or middle button should be able to enjoy it as well.
Anyway, maybe they should upgrade their mouse. get a decent mouse man!

levisu, it's a good idea. I actually did receive emails from GN users that they use notebooks with no clickable mouse wheels. I will add a task with lower priority assigned. Thanks.

Thank you jack! In the meantime, could you make sure that the current tab browsing feature won't be disable, cause my mouse has a clickable middle button, and the middle click tab browsing works great for it.
