Re: Middle-click on slashdot links locks up GreatNews

For what it's worth, after installing IE8, this lockup doesn't happen any more.

Crash report

Crash location: 018ad9c0. I had two tabs open with stories in them, was in the middle of reading in one, and greatnews crashed. (ie, I didn't click on anything, etc. Sorry, I can't repro the state, it was a few clicks away from the first link in a feed) (is there any way to get the contents of the '...

Re: Middle-clicking on MSDN link locks up greatnews

No, it's not this PC -- as I said in the previous thread about this, it happens on other PCs here. It's something about the network environment here -- we have a websense proxy between the LAN and the outside world, and something about the extra network hops that causes confuses GreatNews (but only ...

Middle-clicking on MSDN link locks up greatnews

On this PC here, at work, middle-clicking on links to MSDN locks up Greatnews, in exactly the same way that middle-clicking on links to slashdot locks up Greatnews. Repro (on this PC, I haven't tried it on others): open greatnews. Put http://thedailywtf.com/Articles/His-Own-Way-to-Newline.aspx into ...

Two-column view can truncate text

In two-column view, the layout engine seems to get confused, and can wind up laying text out next to an image in such a way that the text is truncated. See the right-hand column here: [img=http://img144.imageshack.us/my.php?image=twocolclippedmf0.png] http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/392/twocolcli...

Not quite; I've got VS6, VS2002, VS2003, and I've got an install for 2008 floating around, but not 2005.. I can probably find an install for that one if it'd help. The tricky part is that it doesn't crash, it just locks up using all the CPU, so while I could attach devstudio to the process, I'm not ...

I'm sure it's something about this PC, yes -- but whatever it is can also happen on the PC at home, just much less often, and the PC at home has essentially zero overlap in software with the PC at work, other than both being XPSP2. Either way, it's still only GreatNews that crashes, other things tha...

It's certainly strange, yup. For what it's worth, opening rss feed links from slashdot in Maxthon works fine, so it's not IE-in-a-background-tab when it's not doing it in GreatNews.

It's not AV, there's nothing that scans downloads either here or at home. And the number-of-comments is an interesting thought, but it's not that: http://science.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/12/13/0318223&from=rss is only about five pages long, but still locks GreatNews up. The dashes.com page...

A fairly painless workaround: set left-click to "open in new tab" as well -- the difference being that it opens the new tab in the foreground, so the background loading bug doesn't show up. I still get new tabs, I just have to sit on that tab for a moment until whatever the critical point ...

Well, I can't create an exact repro at home, but I just killed greatnews fairly easily, and it's nothing to do with number of feeds or history or whatnot, it's background loading in tabs. 1. clean install of greatnews 2. delete all existing feeds. 3. add slashdot (using http://www.slashdot.org, rath...

Interestingly, it's not just slashdot, and it's not just the feeds page; Opening this page in greatnews: (which was linked to from boingboing) http://kempton.wordpress.com/2007/12/09/fair-copyright-rally-calgary-part-2/ and clicking on the 'michael's blog entry' link there: http://www.michaelgeist.c...

Yup, repros every time I try and do "show all" on the feed page for consumerist. Same call stack, too. IE works just fine if I point it at http://feeds.gawker.com/consumerist/full, though, so it's something about how GreatNews is using IWebBrowser2 that causes this, as far as I can tell. D...

Crash after hitting "show all"

(rather than just 'show unread') -- here's the info from the crash report:

AppName: greatnews.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.0 ModName: mshtml.dll
ModVer: 6.0.2900.3059 Offset: 0021a48f
