I am a fan of Greatnews too, I am also a developer, I know it is difficult to maintain a project for a long time along without any revenue. So if Greatnews becomes open source, I would like to join your team and work with you to help Greatnews to become better.

That's really a smart move. Thanks. I have been using Greatnews for a while and none of its so far the best RSS reader I have used. RSSBandit is just sluggish, feeddaemon too bulky, etc.
Lots of time I thought "if only that was an open source project"... And now it's done!

I wonder if you decide to ditch the slow IE engine and replace it with something more modern. Showing stuff like embedded YouTube videos and such would a extremely handy.

Keep up the good work!

GreatNews is written in Visual C++ with WTL library.

It's true it's easier to maintain a consistent style if everything is done by myself. But there will be inherent bandwidth issue with just one developer. I'm sure there are plenty of able hands out there to move GreatNews forward more rapidly. Going open source just mean I will also act as a coordinator, instead of just a sole developer for GreatNews.

I for one am saddened by the news, as it doesn't seem like GreatNews could be in any more competent hands than its author. You've created a truely beautiful and useful program.

For curiosities sake, what language did you use?

I`ve been using GreatNews for about two years now and it`s still my feedreader of choice. It`s faster than others (especially if you got a lot of subscriptions), reliable and lets me view the feeds the way I want. So thanks for this great product! Going open source would be a smart move, and I hope the developement of GreatNews will continue.

That great news for Great News, I hope you really make it opensource and other developers start making some improvements we haven't seen for too long.

It's still the best RSS reader I could find.

This is a wonderful present to the community. I enjoy reading my feeds with GreatNews for a long time now. And I have not found any other newsreader alike.

Unfortunately there some minor glitches (like sporadic termination of the client). I hope to see this great piece work being improved by enthusiasts.

The one thing that is really great is the color coding and filtering. Perhaps some more advanced improvements for these features will emerge.

I am very happy to see this development.

Thank you so much,
Christian
