The only way to keep GreatNews alive in long term is to make a profit of it. Making it a commerical app is probably the easiest way but not the only way. I'd like to see if there's some subtle way to bring in some ad-sponsed content. If I decide to charge a fee on the software it's more likely be some functional enhancements than major UI look and feel change.

Is GreatNews going to remain a freeware application forever? If it is going to be made a commercial application, will there be a user interface overhaul (a little proffesionalism in the look, IMHO) before the final product is made available?

"Thank you for your patience."

I saw that too. I blogged about it at http://leehopkins.net/2006/05/16/clippings-from-the-bettercomms-garden-2/ (it's the second-last item). Jack Vinson also loves GreatNews, as do I and Allan Jenkins (http://allanjenkins.typepad.com/my_weblog/) who put me on to you!
Cheers for such a great aggregator --- now, any way that you can cache images so that I can see the images that come with the post when I'm offline? Cheers, Lee
